Chicago Community Cinema (CCC) Brings CUFF, Ground Chuck, $85,000 To The Table
on August 6th
What do (1) the Chicago Underground Film Festival, (2) a plate of meat, and (3)
$85,000 have in common? They are all taking center stage Tuesday, August 6th at
Chicago Community Cinema. We'll explain.
(1) The August 6th CCC event is co-sponsored by the Chicago Underground Film
Festival (CUFF), which runs August 22-28. Over the past nine years, CUFF has
become the Midwest's premier showcase of experimental, independent and
underground cinema, playing an invaluable role in introducing new work to
Chicago and Chicago work to the world.
Tickets are now on sale for the 9th Annual festival playing at Landmark Century
Cinema. For more info, or to purchase tickets for the Opening Night, check out
http://www.cuff.org.
(2) The plate of meat. Check out the CCC lineup below... it'll all make sense.
(3) Last but not least, the 85 Grand. Well, of course we're talking about the
$85,000 IFP/Chicago Production Fund! A panel of Independent Feature Project
representatives will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. to discuss film financing and
the great work IFP/Chicago does to support our local indie filmmakers.
Interested in $85,000 for your next short film? Join us on the 6th.
Doors open at 6 p.m. IFP takes the stage at 6:30 p.m. Films begin at 7:30 p.m.
Our musical guest, Yer Mothers Lovers, closes out the evening. For those of you
who are new to Chicago or have been living under a rock for the past two years,
Chicago Community Cinema goes down on the first Tuesday of every month, upstairs
at Excalibur, 632 North Dearborn in Downtown Chicago.
Hold onto your stomachs! Here are your films for the August Chicago Community
Cinema:
An opening music video from Yer Mothers Lovers will be followed by some
signature selections from the Chicago Underground Film Festival. The CUFF
selections include Dead Guy, an experimental short from Jason Moran, which is
where that plate of meat reference comes into play. In Dead Guy, a zombie turns
to the television in a weak attempt to take his mind of his human girlfriend's
luscious - and very filling - flesh. He finds a respite from hunger, however,
and is confronted by an evil
announcer who tempts him with Steakums and other choice meat products.
The "plate of meat" theme is then passed along to the IFP/Chicago Film of the
Month, Ground Chuck. Don't worry: this film has nothing to do with meat. The
latest from last year's Best of CCC nominees, the Bader Brothers, Ground Chuck
is a slick thriller with sheiks, skateboards, and a killer ending.
The final film of the evening will be Lulu Takes a Lover, directed by Peter
O'Keefe. In this seriocomic piece, an office worker (played by Chicago actress
Krissy Shields) takes a love potion that causes havoc in the workplace. If you
gotta have a sneak peek, Lulu is currently running on IFILM.com
