This weekend was surely a wild ride for many of your friends and family (and perhaps YOU) who were participating in the 2006 48 Hour Film Project! Well the dust has cleared, and all the films are now in, so the teams can all breathe a little easier. Now, it's time to get ready for the DEBUT SCREENINGS of all these freshly-minted short films! Come on out to see the 2006 San Francisco 48 Hour Films this very week, at the Roxie Cinema in San Francisco Event details as follows:
WHERE: Roxie Cinema http://www.roxie.com 3117 16th Street @ Valencia, San Francisco, CA
WHEN: First set of films: Tuesday, June 27th, shows at 7:00 and 9:30
Middle set of films: Wednesday, June 28th, shows at 7:00 and 9:30 Last set of films: Thursday, June 29th, shows at 7:00 and 9:30
WHY: For an easy $8, you get to see your local independent-film community at work, and find out just what a motivated team can accomplish in 48 hours. You'd be surprised! Also, we need your vote for the Audience Favorite awards. The screenings are always fun, so come on down and check them out, and help support your filmmaking community. Tickets available on-line from the Roxie web site above or at the door day-of-show.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Roxie!

The San Francisco 48 Hour Film Project kicks off in just a few hours! This is the big weekend for the filmmakers, and the debut screenings for all the new films are next week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, at the Roxie Film Center! See www.roxie.com for full details and advanced tickets, or www.48hourfilm.com/sf for more on the event as a whole.
I also need volunteers to help usher at the screenings. Whether you are making a film this weekend or not, now is your chance to help out, and get to see some of the films for FREE! At the screenings, next T, W, and Th, June 27-29, I need three ushers per
screening to pass out ballots and help collect them at the end of the
show. It's easy, and there are two opportunities each night, as there are shows at 7 and 9:30 (same night's films show twice). You're
welcome to volunteer for one or both screenings on a given night, or
multiple nights if you like!
If you are interested, drop me a note with the times you can help, and I'll follow up by email to confirm. Whether or not you can help out, I hope you can come out to see the films!
*i am interested in joining a group to experience the film fest.
unfortunately i am limited on time. i have work Sunday. but, would like to
work Saturday morning til late afternoon 6/24/06 and/or Friday night
6/23/06. willing to help in any role, inc PA.* also, have a friend
filmmaker that would like to join.
if you would like to work together please state your location, time and what
work you might need.
i have experience in hosting, camera, sound, td for cable access; have
worked as Actor, AD, Assistant to Director, Producer and Actor, also extra
and PA work. my focus is in FCP editing but don't think that will help you
in working as i am not available on Sunday for post.
thanks.

On the road to retirement? Check out MSN Life Events for advice on how to
get there! http://lifeevents.msn.com/category.aspx?cid=Retirement
...we have a scheduled Thursday night screening and if we hold it
then, some 8 members of our team will not be able to attend. Is there
a team scheduled for Tuesday night that would be willing to swap with us?
I'd really like to be able to bring my team out to the screening
without having them wreck their schedules (or worse, miss the thing...)
Is there anyone who can make this trade?

The 2006 48 Hour Film Project is heating up, and with the June 23rd Kick-Off just two weeks away, we think it's time to get to meet one-another BEFORE the proverbial starting gun resounds. That's why we're hosting a Meet and Greet, next Wednesday June 14th, for everyone interested or involved in the 2006 San Francisco 48HFP event.
San Francisco 48HFP Meet and Greet Hours: 7:00 to 9:30, come any time.
There are two municipal garages in the area, decent street parking, and the Powell St. BART/MUNI station is just a block away!
It's part social-hour, part Q&A session (with me your LP), and part networking opportunity. After all, the 48 Hour Film Project has always been dedicated to the fun and excitement of film-making, and my greatest hope with this event is to bring the great Bay Area film community together in a unique way. Here is a chance to meet others like yourself, who relish the very chance to spend a weekend of their lives making an original short film! Sure they will be competing too, but the competition is just a part of it. It's really your chance to push your own limits, and have a blast doing it. If you'd like to join a team, the Meet and Greet is also a perfect chance to meet team leaders who are looking for teammates, and others who are just interested in flimmaking in general.
As noted, I will be there to answer any 48HFP questions you may have, as best I can, and fill you in on any details you need. I'll have a copy of the Official Rules, a mess of papers and info, and some great big envelopes too, of course... Hope to see you there!
I performed in and worked on last years award winning film "SaltQuest". Our group won three awards in the 48hr film project. It was such an inspiring event; I'd like to be part of this years project. Unfortunately, FreeDirt Media is not participating.
I am available as either an actor (professionally trained comedic or dramatic) or as a crewmember (15years experience in video and theatre production).
Actor: Trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts Hosted "Straight Night Out" at Theatre Rhino as "Straight Ambassador" Meisner Technique I & II with Christy English Butchers
Crew: Asst. Director / Production Mgr. / Stage Mgr. / Dolly Grip Illbilly Productions - "Evolution: The Musical" - Assistant Director FreeDirt Media - "SaltQuest" - Production Manager American Conservatory Theatre - "The Love of the Nightingale" - S.M. Managed productions in L.A., NYC, Las Vegas, Dallas and S.F.

hi,
I'm looking for crew for my team "Are We There Yet." I need people for
camera, lighting, and sound. Please go to
http://www.wearenotamused.com/AreWeThereYet/ for details.
thanks,
-leena-
In fact, yes, the screenings have been scheduled for June 27, 28, and 29th, 7:00 and 9:30 PM, at the Roxie Cinema in San Francisco. This info was in our email announcements, but it's not on the web site yet. I'll fix that soon!
The screenings work as follows: Teams will be divided into three groups, A, B and C. The first night, June 27th, all of the A-group films will screen. The full set of films will screen twice: once at 7 PM, and again at 9:30. The next night, all the B-group films will screen twice, and similarly for the C-group on June 29th.
Note: Team groupings will be assigned soon. Watch your email, team leaders. Oh, and there will be an audience favorite chosen for each screening night. Packing the audience with your fans is definitely allowed! Stay tuned for more screening info on getting tickets in advance, directions, etc.
Next question: The Kick-Off/Drop-Off Location: I am in the final confirmation stages on this - It's a new location in SF from last year, more spacious (we're bigger!) and better all around. But for fear of propogating incorrect info, let's wait until it is finalized before I send out the info. Should be in the next day or two. All team leaders will get emails with the details.
I have had a few people on our team ask and I was curious if it had
been announced already?
Also, where are we all meeting on that Friday?
Thanks,
Joel
Glad to know you're excited, and great to hear your positive
attitude. Of course every team wants to win it all, but we really
want to emphasize the simple joy of filmmaking and the opportunities
the 48HFP provides to find out more about the great Bay Area film
community.
So, Joel, to answer your question, this is shaping up to be a great 48
Hour Film Project season! We already have 34 teams signed up, and
the cap will be set at 36 teams this year (up from 26 last year).
If you know any potential team leaders who are dragging their feet,
tell them to get signed up soon!! After we reach the cap, we will
start a wait-list. It's actually a pretty fair shot if you're on
the wait list, because there typically are a few teams who back out as
the event approaches.
As always, you may all feel free to contact me with any questions you have.
Cheers,
JD

I won't be doing the 48 hour film project this year, but wish everyone
the best of luck. I participated a few years ago and our team won a few
awards (Audience Choice and Best Acting).
I wrote a long blog entry back then about the entire event right after
we finished. There are probably some good tips in there for anybody
participating.

I'm very glad you decided to draw a hand from the 48HFP deck! I hope it turns out to be a lucky one, but win or lose, the point of this competition is really just to bring the Bay Area filmmaking community together in an interesting way, provide an interesting learning opportunity, and celebrate the fun of filmmaking. It's good to see you already have the right attitude!
This forum is a good way to share ideas and thoughts with other participants. Note: the past has shown that specific questions to this list will get more response than general requests for advice. Also, we'll be hosting a meet+info night sometime in the next several weeks, which will be a great time to meet other teams, network and look for team members, and ask me (in person) any questions you may have. Stay tuned for info on that...

Glad you are excited! You weren't quite the first to jump in this
year, but definitely near the front of the initial "sprinters".
Glad to have you and your team back this year. It's going to be a
wild ride!
Made it in by the skin of our teeth last year, we may have been the
first to sign up this year. Either way - I can't wait to be exhausted
after another 48HFP. I'm looking forward to this very much!
Hi,
I've signed up to direct a 48-hr film this year. The name of the
team is "Are We There Yet?"
I did camerawork for last year's "Elimi-mate" and would like to
direct a short film this year. I've written/directed/edited three
short (3-min, 5-min, 7-min) films in the past.
If you are interested in being a cast or crew, please send me a
brief email with your past education/experience and a few lines on
your interest in films/filmmaking (films/director/writer you like,
etc.). Please include your email address and phone number (emails
with missing phone numbers will be ignored).
Cast: any and all actors of any gender/races/age since we won't know
until the day of the film as to who we'll need.
Production Crew: writer, camera, sound, light, productions
assistants (for odd jobs)
Post-Production Crew: editor with Adobe Premiers experience,
music/sound composer, sound editor, titles creator/editor
Promotion: producer (finance & marketing), web designers, event
planners (for planning the showing of films at parties)
thanks,

We are now officially announcing the San Francisco 48 Hour Film
Project, 2006! The dates proposed first proved sub-optimal, and
so accordingly, we have settled on the following dates:
Team Registration: On-line signup begins in two weeks: Monday, April 24th
Kickoff: Friday, June 23 2006 - 7:00 PM
Dropoff: Sunday, June 25 2006 - 7:30 PM Sharp!!
Screenings on the weekday evenings just following; details to be sent later.
Here's to a fantastic film-making weekend and short-film mayhem at
the Roxie to kick off the summer! The event will be even better
this year, with advanced tickets on-line, a shuffling of genres, and a
brand-new "diversified" wild-card option. Stay tuned for the details on upcoming meet&info sessions, kickoff/dropoff locations, producers' tips and more...
Great to hear from you, and thanks for posting to the list. We're
glad to have your interest this year. For you, and the other
bay-area film lovers on this list, here is an answer to your question:
Yes, as you might imagine, the 2006 San Francisco 48 Hour Film Project
competition season is soon upon us!! The 48-hour film-making
weekend will (tentatively) be the first weekend in June, June
2-4. All the films will be screened on the weeknights of the
following week.
These dates are considered workable, but not quite set in stone, so if
any of you on this list know of good reasons why these dates are less
than ideal, please let me, JD, your local producer for this year's
competition, know as soon as you can.
That said, planning is already fully underway, and the web site for
sign-up is set to go live very soon. More info to follow in the
week ahead!! Also, be sure to keep an eye on the web site:

Hi! Does anybody here have experience with low budget production
insurance? Xoflow Films would like to continue making shorts, but it
certainly seems like we should invest in some production insurance to
help with equipment rentals, etc.
Does anybody have any advice?
Thanks!

Dear friends of the 48 Hour Film Project--
This message went out previously to many of you, but i wasn't sure
if it got sent to the Yahoo Group for the SF 48HFP. Here it is.
I am writing to let you know that the 48 Hour Film Project and
Landmark Theaters are organizing a benefit for people affected by
Hurricane Katrina. We're showing eleven of the funniest, most
entertaining films made as part of the 48 Hour Film Project.
The filmmakers and the 48HFP have donated the use of the films
and our labor to produce the event. Landmark Theaters have
generously donated their theater time at cinemas across the US.
100% of the proceeds will go to hurricane relief efforts through
the American Red Cross.
So come on out for a good cause, and watch the adventures of
Naked Man, see robots take over cities, and hear songs of office
intrigue and mayonnaise. These films are guaranteed to make you
laugh!
Here are the details:
"Funny Shorts Made Fast: A Hurricane Katrina Benefit"
