So, I've been planning for months to enter the SF 48 hour film festival and in
the last
month ended up shooting a spec commercial that took all of my money. All of it.
A few days ago I went on the website planning to put the entry fee on my credit
card and
they are full, should have seen this one coming.
I'm looking to join in with a team who is already entered.
I took the weekend off work have been gathering grip and other supplies for the
shoot.
I am a DP/Director who has lots of experience as an AC with the HVX, 35 adaptor
(thanks
to last weekend), some familiarity with the RED, I know the DVX inside and out,
as well at
the XL1 and GL2.
I have two 600w tungsten lights with umbrellas and a soft box.
I have some misc gels and diffusions, black wrap etc.
I have a GL2 and nice tripod, you probably have something better though.
I got lots of costumes, army fatigues, masks, i think a firemans jacket as well
as a BFA in
Cinema Production from SFSU.
Looking to join a laid back team of filmmakers for a weekend of fun, creativity
and an
awesome movie.
Anyone, anyone?
I may double post in the general forum, I don't know how many of the guys and
gals from
SF post in here.

Hi San Fran 48HFP Filmmakers,
The 48 Hour Film Project's sister competition, the National Film
Challenge, is taking place on October 19th through the 22nd!
Teams from around the world will write, shoot, and edit a short film
in three days. They will receive a character, prop, line of dialogue,
and a genre on a secure website at 7pm local time on October 19th and
must mail their film in on October 22nd. In the following weeks the
top films (determined by a panel of judges) will be available for
viewing (and voting!) on our website (www.filmchallenge.org). There
will be two big winners this year - The Judges Winner and The
Audience Award Winner (determined by the online voting.) Both films
will screen with the 48 Hour Film Project City Winners at this year's
48 Hour Film Project end of year event (TBD.) In addition there will
be cash prizes for the winning films! ($1,000 for Best Film and $500
for the Audience Award Winner.)
Registration begins on September 1st. Registration is $110 if you
register before September 20th and $125 afterwards.
Visit the National Film Challenge webpage here: www.filmchallenge.org
Brought to you by KDHX Community Media and the 48 Hour Film Project.

I would just like to emphasize that there were many compelling films this year, and every team that entered into the event deserves to be honored and recognized. If I could, I would be showing all our films, but that's just not possible. I know winning an award is important to some folks, but let's remember that this event is really about the fun of making a film in a weekend. In that spirit, I really hope EVERYONE comes out to enjoy these films, whether or not your film is on the bill. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!
Thank you all very much for your patience during the ajudication phase of our Project. Care has been taken to ensure a fair and accurate count. (No hanging chads!) At this stage we are hereby announcing the Audience Favorite award winners. Here are the audience picks for each night.

7:00 - 7:30 -- Informal meeting and greeting of your peers
7:30 - 8:15 -- Formal introductions, LP announcements, some short film clips, and a hosted Q&A
8:15 - 9:30 -- More meeting, more greeting and more coffee!
I'll be there, holding forth on all matters SF, and so as will be Vincent Lowe and Brooks Graham, co-producers for this year's San Jose event in August. Hope to see you there!
Good news! Our first Meet and Greet of the 2007 Project season is upon us!
It will be next Wednesday, May 23rd, from 7 to 9 PM. We're graciously being hosted in San Francisco at Shine SF www.shinesf.com. This is a great chance to celebrate the upcoming bonanza! You can meet other film-makers, and find people in need of/offering talents for the team roster. This is also your chance to ask me in person about any 48HFP topics on your mind. Looking to join a team? Come out and tell people what you do! Interested in the San Jose 48HFP event this August? Stop by and get the lowdown. All who are interested in the 48HFP in any way are welcome, whether they are teamed-up or not.
There will be a second fun 48HFP Meet and Greet event, in Santa Clara on June 5th. The heat will be on, just 10 days before the San Francisco Kick-off, and we'll also be celebrating the run-up to San Jose's first-ever 48 Hour Film Project!
I'm interested in helping on a team. I'm new to this event. I'm a 47
year old emergency physician from up north in Redding CA. I've done
small time films to entertain my staff so my experience is limited, but
I am willing to help in anyway (camera, editing, etc)... looks like a
great adventure.

"In Focus: The Making of a Short"
Check out MacFilmmakers this Wednesday!
An always popular segment of a MacFilmmakers meeting is showcasing
notable work by local filmmakers followed by Q&A. This Wednesday,
Joel "Sinohui" Hinojosa of Emerging Artist Productions and his
producing partner Bernard Fok will be presenting an extended cut of
their most recent short film "In Focus".
The originally 7-minute short was screened as part of the most
recent 48 Hour FIlm Project in San Francisco, where it screened at
the Roxie Theater. Now at a full 14 & 1/2 minutes in length, Joel
and Bernard will be discussing the process from inception to final
cut with members of the cast and crew in attendance
Shot digitally with prime lenses, the film is already gaining
notoriety, including its acceptance as an official selection of the
Kearny Street Workshop's Festival this September. For a look at the
poster for the film and a brief clip at popular online media site
MySpace, go to:
www.myspace.com/infocus_themovie
Doors open at 6:30 pm and meetings are open to the public. The
meeting is free. Parking is plentiful and free. All you have to do
is show up.
For those new to MacFilmmakers, De Anza Three Auditorium is located
at Apple's campus in Cupertino in a large building near the
southeast corner of De Anza Boulevard and Mariani Ave. Here is a
link to map. Note: just pay attention to the red hand on the right
side of the diagram (under the dreadfully out-of-date reference to
an "October 23rd Meeting"):

See you Wednesday!
I'm sorry that I forgot the name, but I would like to get a copy of
this film. It was the last film that showed Tues night at the 7pm
screening. If anybody could help that would be great. Thanks in
advance.
Cheers,
Eric
This weekend was surely a wild ride for many of your friends and family (and perhaps YOU) who were participating in the 2006 48 Hour Film Project! Well the dust has cleared, and all the films are now in, so the teams can all breathe a little easier. Now, it's time to get ready for the DEBUT SCREENINGS of all these freshly-minted short films! Come on out to see the 2006 San Francisco 48 Hour Films this very week, at the Roxie Cinema in San Francisco Event details as follows:
WHERE: Roxie Cinema http://www.roxie.com 3117 16th Street @ Valencia, San Francisco, CA

Middle set of films: Wednesday, June 28th, shows at 7:00 and 9:30 Last set of films: Thursday, June 29th, shows at 7:00 and 9:30

Also, we need your vote for the Audience Favorite awards. The screenings are always fun, so come on down and check them out, and help support your filmmaking community. Looking forward to seeing you at the Roxie!

The San Francisco 48 Hour Film Project kicks off in just a few hours! This is the big weekend for the filmmakers, and the debut screenings for all the new films are next week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, at the Roxie Film Center! See www.roxie.com for full details and advanced tickets, or www.48hourfilm.com/sf for more on the event as a whole.
I also need volunteers to help usher at the screenings. Whether you are making a film this weekend or not, now is your chance to help out, and get to see some of the films for FREE! At the screenings, next T, W, and Th, June 27-29, I need three ushers per
screening to pass out ballots and help collect them at the end of the
show. It's easy, and there are two opportunities each night, as there are shows at 7 and 9:30 (same night's films show twice). You're
welcome to volunteer for one or both screenings on a given night, or
multiple nights if you like!
If you are interested, drop me a note with the times you can help, and I'll follow up by email to confirm. Whether or not you can help out, I hope you can come out to see the films!
