Hi Mat--

Right now there is no place to view the completed films online. We will
need to clear that through the 48HFP organization, the Burningman
organization, and the individual filmmakers before that can happen.

If you have recommendations of sites at which to host the films, please
let me know.

Thanks for asking!

I probably won't arrive until Wednesday or even Thursday, but I'd
love to hook up with a team as a writer and/or actor.  I have quite a
bit of fringe/amateur theater experience, having played, among other
characters, former New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger, a tap-
dancing corporate assassin and a mean male nurse.  I also have
extensive improv comedy training.  Any takers?

I'm a trained NY actor coming out for my 7th burn. I'm camping with
Kostume Kult at 8:08 and Esplanade so I'll have access to plenty of
Costumes and meterials. I'll be there all week. Drop me a line if you
want to chat before or lets hook up on the Playa. Mainly interested in
acting but happy to help with a script and fill in crew roles, as well.

Sounding very good.  I like the idea of Matrix to explore this year’s theme of Psyche.  Seems like there’s a lot to work on in terms of consciousness.  Of course, we have no idea what directions the 48 folks will lay on us.  We should discuss in BRC.  Where are you camping?  I’m going to be somewhere in or near Kidscamp (i’m coming with my daughter) 5:30 and Ego.  I’ll also be volunteering a lot in center camp – mixing and stage managing.  When are you arriving?  If we don’t meet up I’ll stick a note on the bulletin board next to the Artery (I think that’s where it is).

Hey Raven,

I was thinking of making a Bollywood style film. All singing all dancing -
song and dance details to be worked out. Maybe we can combine that and
Matrix? Think I have a female lead too.

Hey all!

So! I've decided to give the 48hr film competition a try in the desert! It's
intereting how
things work out because I just participated in the 48hr. film competition they
had in Miami
where my team got the mockumentary genre. It was hard, it was grueling, it was a
lot
easier than what I imagine it to be on the playa...BUT mainly it was a hell of a
lot of FUN to
see what we could create together and to see how other teams handled their
projects.

And with all the creativity and the craziness and all the beauty available at
Burning Man I
honestly can't wait to be a part of it again.

I'd like to make myself available for DIRECTING or SHOOTING a project. I am a
freelancer in
the film and video industry and usually work as a camera operator/lighting
director. What I
did for my recent 48hr film was Director of Photography.

I own a Panasonic DVX100a that I plan on taking to the playa (still worried
about all the
dust), one set of wireless mic, and a little video light for nighttime.

So I'm curious about who has the editing/music capabilities available to them
bcuz then
we have a crew!!

hee hee...

Hi Dave and everyone--

No, you have not missed communications. I've been in England for the
last week and will be here almost until Burning Man, which has meant
that it's difficult for me to get time and internet access to update
everyone on the BRC 48HFP.

The most important thing is that all interested folks should come to
the kickoff, preferably early. Here are the details:

WHERE: Automatic Subconscious, the big cube at 6:30 and Esplanade
WHEN: Tuesday, August 30th, arrive by 4pm

I will be there at 3pm (if not earlier), so if you have not put your
team together, feel free to come then and join a team or form one.

The biggest need I'm hearing from folks is for equipment. If you have
a video camera or a laptop with editing software, please bring it.

Also, a good idea is to review the 48HFP rules, which are located at:
http://www.48hourfilm.com/rules-2005.htm

Please feel free to email me questions. Talk to you soon, and see you
on the playa if not before!

Hey All,

I'm feeling a little out of it with this 48 hour film thing. Have I missed
some communications? It seems like there's been no directions or
instructions at all. Is that the way it's supposed to go, or am I not
getting all the emails?

Hi I am Tara, I am a still photographer with some
experience making moving film, but rusty.

I am looking for a team and would like to do some of
the shooting, perhaps some acting, and general
scouting for people and things to be in the movie.

i love the idea of having to include the 4 elements
and the challenge that could pose. I am so inspired
by the stark beauty of the playa and the possibility
of incorporating art into the set.

Hope to join a good team.

See you there,

Tara

Don't have team, yet. Probably have to find teammates on the playa. I'd
love to direct/edit a film. And/or could shoot, run sound, grip. I have a
small Sony DV cam, and an ok wireless mic. Probably would need something a
little better(?). Might have a laptop with final cut, or might need one.
Need team: actors, shooter, sound person, etc.

As above, I'd like to direct/edit a film. And/or could shoot, run sound,
grip. I have a small Sony DV cam, and an ok wireless mic. Probably would
need something a little better(?). Might have a laptop with final cut, or
might need one. Need team: actors, shooter, sound person, etc.

Don't know how to rent/borrow equipment for the playa because it's so
dangerous for the stuff out there. The only way I can see getting stuff is
by having people bring their own and assume their own risks.

Protecting equipment - keep everything in plastic bags. Figure out how to
make a hole for the lens. Get underwater housing for bigger cameras.

Finding cast and crew on the playa - hmm. I think actors could be found by
asking people and theme camps if they'd like to be in a movie. Crew, I'm
not sure. Perhaps there is a bulletin board for media folks. I think the
best way to find both would be to have something listed in the events
calendar for Monday, Tues, Wed at a recurring time that describes what the
project is and inviting all interested parties to come to your camp. You
know, like "48 Hours of sub/un/conscious filmmaking!! Explore your mind in
film. Let your superego rule, your id run rampant. If you've ever wanted
to 'act out' your dreams, nightmares, fears and share them with your friends
at BM this is the place and time. Calling all actors, writers, camerapeople,
soundpeople, editors, grips. Be part of the 1st 48 Hour Film Festival of
the mind and playa. Films will be screened Thursday night...

Advice. People will flake. Everyone will have a different idea.
Conditions will be tough. It seems to me the simpler the ideas the more
likely they'll be accomplished. Don't know exactly what that means. That
is, is it better to have a short play or something ready to go and just cast
for that, or to spontaneously come up with something? Perhaps the best
would be to find a group of actors who have something they're already
playing around with and develop that. It would also be cool to scout art
that would become the 'sets' and build the scenes around those. The coolest
of all would be a combination of reality - real people and events - and some
sort of 'scripted' story.

To me, the most exciting aspect of this project is the possibility of using
film/video to participate in BM. This is my third burn and, since I work in
tv (doc producer), I've always wondered what to do with that skill. I
haven't felt that making a documentary would be right because it seems like
it would take me too much out of the now of the event, capturing it for
later use. But this project, rather than making something to look at after
the fact, is a chance to be in BM, interpreting the theme of
sub/un/consciousness, incorporating the actual event, and sharing that
interpretation with others, and maybe helping them be even more in the event
in the process! Wouldn't be easy, but could be pretty fun!

Hey all--

I'm Ben Guaraldi, the Black Rock City Producer of the 48 Hour Film
Project. If you're just joining this list, here are a few questions to
get you started:

- If you plan to be a team captain, or are on a team, what role(s) are
you looking for? What equipment do you need?

- If you are looking for a team, what do you want to do?

- What are good ways to rent/borrow equipment to take to the playa?
How should you protect equipment? How would you recommend finding
cast and crew on the playa?

- What advice do you have for other 48 Hour Filmmakers, whether you've
done the contest before or not? What is your experience at Burning
Man? With the 48HFP? What makes you excited about this project?

Thanks!
